RCB Donates 100 Backpacks to No Child Goes Hungry in Peabody Project

Reading, MA – Reading Cooperative Bank (RCB) has partnered with the Peabody Rotary Club to help deliver 100 new backpacks for the “No Child Goes Hungry in Peabody” project. The project packs two meals and a few snacks every Thursday during the school year. Stephanie Johnson, Mortgage Loan Officer at RCB and President of the Rotary Club of Peabody, is leading the joint effort to apply for a mini-grant that would be used by the project to add supplemental materials to the much-needed backpacks.

“This program supports children in need of meals over the weekend when not at school,” said Johnson. “Sadly, these might be the only meals and snacks that some may have in the 48 hours of a weekend before returning to school on Monday.”

The project has identified 300 students this coming year, so far providing backpacks for at least 100 of them. Last year, the project took care of over 200 children. The backpacks are meant to be all different types and styles to avoid the stigma that may come if clearly marked for the project.

Anyone who cares to make a donation can send a check to the Peabody Public Schools at 27 Lowell St., Peabody, MA 01960 with No Child Goes Hungry in Peabody in the memo line.
