RCB Donates $500 to Reading Coalition Against Substance Abuse

Reading, MA – Reading Cooperative Bank (RCB) recently made a $500 contribution to the Reading Coalition Against Substance Abuse (RCASA) for the organization’s “Jams for Jake” music festival. RCASA strives to create a space for open and honest reflection on the effects of the opioid crisis in our lives and communities. The Coalition seeks to break down the misconceptions and stigmas around addiction that keep people from getting the help they desperately need, forcing families and loved ones to suffer profound hardships and losses.

“Jams for Jake” featured speakers confronting their own experience with substance abuse and recovery. From there, the event transitioned into a learning session, offering resources for those who are still struggling and those who want to learn how to help others. By the end of the meeting, those in attendance walked away knowing they could do something to help either themselves, someone else, or the community at large. RCASA’s mission has been to build up strong, healthy and safe communities while educating people on the crisis that faces their friends and neighbors in this ongoing epidemic.

“What an incredible experience it was to witness the support and compassion of family, friends and other members of our community,” said Melissa Finn, Banking Specialist in RCB’s Woburn branch, who attended the event. “To see all the musicians and friends of Jake honoring his memory and helping to raise awareness was inspiring to watch. You truly felt the power of music, as it brought all these people together with the spirit to affect change and make a positive difference in the community.”

All money raised went to expenses involved in running the “Jams for Jake” community festival, including continued support of RCSA’s ongoing initiatives to provide help to families that are struggling. For additional information or to make a contribution, please contact Alison Stager at
