RCB Donates $2,500 to the Ipswich River Watershed Association

Reading, MA – Answering the call of its customer-owners to give ten percent (10%) of the Reading Cooperative Charitable Foundation’s funds to environmental causes, RCB has donated $2,500 from the Foundation to the Ipswich River Watershed Association to help support its clean water initiatives. The Ipswich River Watershed Association works to protect nature and make sure that there is enough clean water for people, fish, wildlife and the children of tomorrow.

The Ipswich River Watershed Association (IRWA) is a non-profit organization incorporated in 1977. It serves as the voice of the Ipswich River by working for the protection, conservation and sustainable management of the vital natural resources within the river’s watershed. The IRWA serves all or parts of 23 communities and protects the drinking water for 350,000 people and businesses in Essex and Middlesex Counties. The river was declared one of the most endangered in the country in 2003. The Association sees an important need to modernize and adapt a successful, long-term water quality monitoring program, to increase the number and type of pollutants that are monitored, to enhance their understanding of emerging threats and long-term trends in water quality. They wish to focus new efforts on the headwaters of the Ipswich River located in Burlington, Wilmington, Reading and North Reading; all of which are served by RCB.

“Clean water is an environmental issue that impacts everyone,” said Shanna Cahalane, VP/Director of Marketing at RCB. “We all have a part to play in fostering engagement and awareness in the community.”
