Reading Co-operative Bank Donates to the Reading Education Foundation

May 21, READING, Mass – Reading Co-operative Bank’s Charitable Foundation is pleased to announce its $2,000 donation to the Reading Education Foundation for their 2014 Spring Gala and online auction fundraiser, Imagination Celebration, which will raise funds to provide grants for Reading Public Schools. The Reading Education Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides funds to the school district in an effort to enhance the educational excellence and success of Reading Public Schools beyond the scope of traditional classroom learning. Their efforts benefit administration, faculty, staff, students and the Reading community.

“Reading Co-operative Bank was REF’s first major corporate sponsor and it has been the perfect partnership as both look to better the Reading community in education. Through the Bank’s donations to REF, the building of their educational office and funding the physic labs at the high school, we have been able to work together to benefit the students, faculty, and staff of the Reading Public Schools, as well as the Reading community as a whole,” says Christine Kelley, President of the Reading Education Foundation.

The Reading Education Foundation (REF), formerly the Reading Technology & Education Foundation, was founded in 2001 in response to a glaring lack of technology in the Reading public schools. During its first decade REF granted over $300,000 to the schools in the form of smart boards, laptops, teacher training, and other technology updates. Thanks to the generosity of this community, REF grants have supported every public school in Reading and reached every child in the district.

“Giving back to the communities we serve is something we love to do at RCB. REF is a great organization that exemplifies RCB’s mission of community service and we are happy to support them in the noble cause that they serve,” says Julieann Thurlow, President and CEO of Reading Co-operative Bank.

REF will be hosting this year’s Imagination Celebration on Saturday, May, 3, 2014, at the Northeast School of Ballet. A silent auction will be part of the night’s activities and will kick-off their week-long online auction through the website Bidding for Good. For tickets to the event or for more information, visit REF on the web at
