Students from the RMHS Retail Banking Course visit the Reading Office of Reading Co-operative Bank

Reading, MA – Students of Reading Memorial High School, who are enrolled in the Retail Banking course, recently visited Reading Co-operative Bank’s main office. The course, instructed by Mike Foley, RMHS Branch Manager and Shelley Lynch, Business Department instructor, is intended to give students a hands-on approach to learning banking responsibilities. The students, ranging from sophomores to seniors, are divided into classes of four students each, to allow individualized guidance while working in RCB’s full-service educational branch.

During their visit, students heard from Julie Thurlow, President & CEO of RCB, as well as, Maxine Hart, Chief Human Resource Officer. Ms. Thurlow emphasized corporate responsibility whereas Ms. Hart conducted a resume writing workshop. Additionally, the students developed an advertising campaign for RCB’s “On-The-Go Checking Account”. In small groups, the students presented their ideas to their fellow students and advisors, as well as the bank’s Marketing Director, Shanna Cahalane.

“The field trip is a great way to expand the student’s knowledge on what working in the corporate world is like and how there are many different parts to the bank,” says Mike Foley, Branch Manager Reading Memorial High School Office.

“Today more than ever, corporate responsibility plays a key role in running a successful business. People respect businesses that operate ethically and legally, especially when it involves handling personal financial needs. I feel this is something that needs to be instilled in our future leaders; at RCB we strive to prove that strong corporate values can equal success,” says Julieann Thurlow, President & CEO.
