.
READING, MA –On April 22, 2011, U.S. Representative John F. Tierney of the Massachusetts 6th Congressional District met with leaders of Reading Co-operative Bank at its Haven Street office in Reading.
Congressman Tierney has been doing walking tours throughout the District as part of an ongoing effort to listen to the issues that small businesses and municipalities are facing, and to learn more about initiatives that are helping the economic recovery. He and his staff began the day with a breakfast meeting at a Main Street restaurant with Reading’s Economic Development Committee before taking a walking tour of downtown area businesses, which included a stop at Reading Co-operative Bank.
Tierney remarked that, “The roles that small businesses and community collaboration can play as we continue working towards economic recovery are not to be underestimated,”- a point that was reinforced by the day’s discussions. He also noted how fortunate the District is to have such “engaged and active community leaders,” like the Bank, as a partner in the local economic recovery.
Reading Co-operative Bank President & CEO, Julieann Thurlow, added that, “The Bank has played an important active role in the local economy for 125 years, and has long recognized the importance of being a responsible and caring leader in the community. We were grateful for the opportunity to meet with Congressman Tierney on his recent walking tour and to share our strategies and initiatives with him.”
