.RMHS Retail Banking Students & Reading Co-operative Bank Visit the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston
On April 8, 2011, 18 students from Reading Co-operative Bank’s Retail Banking course at Reading Memorial High School visited the Federal Reserve Bank in Boston to take part in the annual Massachusetts School Bank Association Spring Conference.
The conference, titled “Student Bankers…Do You Know Your Basics?”, was made up of 24 high schools from all over Massachusetts. Students from each school participated in one of four events: Product Development, Marketing Campaign, Banking Bowl Competition, and New England Economic Adventure. All students participated in the essay portion of the competition.
Reading Memorial High School junior Susan Tuvell, entered the essay contest and received the Superior Written Achievement Award. Her persuasive submission, Managing My Money, discusses the advantages she receives attending a school that has its own bank and lessons she has learned.
RMHS students that competed at the conference were Emily Ames, Marianne Arsenault, Alison Bradley, Phil Bruno, Matthew Comerford, Emma Dallalis, Antonio DeGirolamo, Ashley DelGreco, Tim Erwin, Shelby Garvin, Damintha Gunasekera, Christopher Johnson, Brian Kelly, Brianna Moran, Michael Sheehan, Lily Smith, and Christopher Welch.
“This is a great way for the students to apply what we cover in class in a real world setting. I am proud of what they have accomplished,” stated RMHS Branch Manager, Mike Foley. The Retail Banking course is a collaborative program in which students work daily with Mr. Foley in the RCB branch located in the high school. They perform all branch bank functions while learning about banking systems and the economy.
RMHS Retail Banking students would like to thank the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston for the use of their facilities, the Massachusetts School Bank Association for an informative program, and Reading Co-operative Bank for funding transportation costs.
