Reading Cooperative Bank Serves up Breakfast at Lazarus House
Reading, MA – Over the last several months, a number of Reading Cooperative Bank (RCB) employees have volunteered their time, once a month, to serve breakfast at the Lazarus House Soup Kitchen, located in Lawrence, MA. The kitchen serves breakfast and a hot, nutritious noon-time meal to anyone who comes through its doors, seven days a week, from November to April.
“The guests are amazed that a bank would take time to serve, let alone buy and prepare food to serve,” said Lazarus House Community Resource Specialist, Miguel Cruz. “Our guests have asked, ‘are those nice people coming back’, referring to the RCB team. I hear comments such as, ‘the food is awesome; better than Monday’s continental breakfast; very friendly servers’. The guests truly enjoy the experience of a well-prepared meal, especially on a Wednesday, a day they are not used to.”
“Giving back to the community is such a huge part of what RCB stands for; and being able to help those in need is a very rewarding experience,” says Richie Selig, Marketing Assistant and frequent volunteer. “The people we serve at Lazarus House are so appreciative and we really enjoy giving them a great breakfast to start their day.”
Lazarus House Ministries has programs for people and families who are homeless or who have low income by offering emergency shelter, food and clothing, while also providing transitional housing, advocacy, education and work preparation.
